Audience Research

Audience Research & Analysis 

Question 1: How old are you?

I had decided to ask this question to see what type of music that specific age group are interested as well as their opinions on music. 47% of the people that had answered were 15 years which means that my main target audience will be 15 year olds. The age rage was from 14 to 21.

Question 2: How often do you listen to music?

More than 94% of the people answering my survey said that they listen to music on a daily basis whereas one person said that they listen to music weekly. This shows me that music is a thing that majority of our society listen to everyday.

Question 3: What music genre do you prefer?

I have decided to ask this question because now that I have the age of the people who are the target of my magazine, I would need to see what kind of music genre they would mostly listen which will influence the genre of music featured in the magazine cover that I will construct.This also gives me an idea of what music best suits the age.  The top three genres of music picked were:
Rnb/Hip Hop
Grime/Drill
Pop
These results will give me an idea of what kind of genre my magazine should be based on. 

Question 4: Who is your favourite artist and why?

This is a crucial piece of research for my survey. I decided to ask this question to get a more in depth answer to the previous question of what music genre do you listen to. The artist that they choose as well as the reason would reflect what kind of attitude they have to different genres as well as musical artists and what makes that person or those people unique in the Music Industry. The top five music acts were:

Childish Gambino 

Xxxtentacion 

Kendrick Lamar 

BTS

Ariana Grande 

This tells me that the audience is multicultural and diverse. The top reasons on why they chose this artist are:

Have good flow and upbeat song

Meaning behind the lyrics

Relatability to the audience 

This tells me that there are many different aspects of a great and memorable musical artist.

Question 5: Would you buy a music magazine?

This question was put into my survey so that I could get an idea of who would go out of their way to actually buy a music magazine. More than half of the votes said that they would buy one. 

Question 6: Which magazines have you heard of?

I decided to ask this question to see if anyone completing the survey had heard of any music magazines and would recognize them. The top three that people had heard of were:

Billboard 

XXL

NME

Question 7: How do you feel when listening to music?

When I got the results of this question, I wasn't surprised at all to see that practically everyone had a positive attitude and reaction to the songs that they listen to. The words that were mostly used to describe their feelings were:

Relaxed

Happy

Calm

These results will also reflect on what kind of music the audience chooses to listen to. 

Question 8: Which magazine cover do you like best?

On my survey, I put five different covers from various music magazines of multiple musical talents. I did this so that I could see which cover would be the most popular by vote so that I can apply some of the unique features on the cover and implement as well as develop it into my own. The most popular cover by quite a few number of votes compared to the others was:

Question 9: What attracts you to a magazine?

This is very important to my research so that I know have features of the magazine I definitely have to focus on for it to appeal to the audience. The features that attract the audience to the cover the most are:

Celebrity/Artist

Colours

This will allow to really delve deeper into what would really catch the readers eye for them to purchase the magazine if it were to be distributed and sold in stores.

Question 10: What colours would you like to see on the cover?

This was the final question I asked on my survey. I had chosen to use this question to see what colours would appeal to my target audience more and which colours would intrigue them to buy the final product. The top three colours that were chosen were:

Black & White

Blue

Red

This tells me that these are the colours that most of my target audience will be looking out for.
